In this new entry in our ‘Diamonds In The Rough’ category, we want to introduce you to upcoming artist Jazzy Monika and her brand new single titled “Connection”.
Steered by classic R&B, the 5-song EP shuffles nostalgia around and places it in the present with sweet harmonies, twisted vocal samples, and a notable chopped outro honoring Toronto’s atmospheric and underwater sound. Starting with a confrontation to an old flame, Jazzy takes us with her as she shows us that true self-love bears all, hopes all, and endures all, no matter how much he says he hates her. Jazzy finds her voice and commands it to let you feel exactly what she feels and to remind us all that she’s never going to beg for it anyway. Even slipping in a taste of modern soul, the 20-something year old sings opposite Scarbourough’s thoughtful rapper Chris Castello as they exchange sweet notes on their newfound need to speak their mind and the heavy load of knowing their worth. The project comes to a satisfying end with her acceptance to build a real connection with the next “one”, just like a true coming of age story. When it’s all said and done, it’s clear that Jazzy’s mixed emotions are a blueprint to her path of moving on.
