In this new entry in our ‘Diamonds In The Rough’ category, we want to introduce you to upcoming artist Alyssa Cass and her brand new single titled “Masquerade”.
The song combines elements of R&B and hip hop with a quick-witted delivery on the verses exposing her hurt and frustration with lines like “these solo cups don’t fill me up” and “with some it’s ADD, they just wanna hit it and leave.” She showcases her vocal ability with runs and a sultry smooth hook for the chorus.
Her voice has frequently been compared to Adele for its dark rich tone and emotional quality and Ariana Grande for her range and vocal agility. She cites Drake as a major writing influence.
She sang, wrote, and produced the song in her home studio in LA, sharing “I wrote this reflecting on college hook-up culture, online dating, and my struggle to create lasting relationships. I found this smooth guitar loop and built the beat around it. The day I recorded, I was in another studio in LA, ran into one of my favorite R&B singers H.E.R., and with a rush of inspiration, went back to my apartment and recorded the vocals you hear on the track.”
